The person behind the models

SOLID3D is a 3D modelling, drafting and 3D printing business based in Melbourne, Victoria, working with people who need to see a product before they commit to building it.

It’s run by Alberto Ochoa. Born in Barcelona and raised in West Sunshine in Melbourne’s west, he studied business in Barcelona and went on to a degree in mechanical engineering in South Australia — which is where the two halves of this job come from. The engineering side is what makes a drawing something a manufacturer can actually build from. The business side is why the quote comes back in plain language, in under 24 hours, with a number on it.

Somewhere along the way the CAD work stopped being a means to an end and became the thing he wanted to do all day. SOLID3D is what came of that: modelling, drafting and printing, run by the person who does the work.

Most projects arrive as a sketch, a photograph or a description of something that doesn’t exist yet. They leave as a photorealistic model, a set of dimensioned drawings, and the CAD files to go with them.

How we work

You keep the files

Every model includes a fully detailed 2D drawing along with its CAD files. You’re never locked out of your own product, and you never have to come back to us for the source.

You see it before it’s final

You’re given the opportunity to see a preliminary 3D model and the complete drawings, so you can confirm the result matches your expectations before anything is finished.

You hear from us

Communication is fundamental while a project is running — you get told how it’s evolving rather than left wondering. Every enquiry gets a reply in less than 24 hours.

Equipment and software

What the work is made with

Every model and every drawing is produced in SolidWorks. Models are supplied as native .sldprt part files, with .stl exports on request, and can be published as an interactive 360° viewer for your own website.

Printed parts are made in ABS plastic, clear coated for durability, and finished to a smooth surface comparable to injection moulding. Assorted colours are available.

Working on something with unusual dimensions, tolerances or materials? Send the details through and we’ll tell you straight whether it’s a job for us.
